From the moment David first touched the piano at age three, his path as a musician was clear. By 13, he was already arranging music for his school band, displaying an exceptional ear and innate sense of composition. His talent earned him both a music and engineering scholarship to North Carolina A&T State University, where he majored in electrical engineering and minored in music composition. Under the mentorship of the renowned Dr. William Smiley, he honed his jazz skills, arranged for the university’s marching band, and showcased his original works in its first-ever composition recital.
After years of making an impact on the Twin Cities music scene, collaborating with artists such as Walter Chancellor, Timotha Lanae, and Ray Covington, David has relocated to the Washington, D.C. metro area. He continues to expand his creative reach, working with local artists, composing new music, and producing original works. In addition to his work as a composer and producer, David serves as the Director of Music at Christ United Methodist Church in Baltimore, Maryland, where he leads and arranges music for worship services, blending tradition with contemporary influences.
David’s sound is deeply rooted in the legends who shaped his musical world. He draws inspiration from icons like Herbie Hancock, George Duke, James Brown, Jeff Lorber, Miles Davis, John Coltrane, Earth, Wind & Fire, The Ohio Players, and George Clinton, as well as gospel greats like John P. Kee, Hezekiah Walker, and Ben Tankard. His music is where the energy of funk, the complexity of jazz, and the soul of gospel come together to create something fresh, exciting, and undeniably funky.
